For academic members, SCI has prepared a number of worked examples to the Eurocodes. These worked examples are available for editing and use by tutors presenting lectures on the Eurocodes. (SCI Members only).
The annual BCSA and Tata Steel Student Awards cover three disciplines; Architectural design, steel buildings and steel bridges design. Undergraduates from Universities in the UK and Ireland are invited to compete against other universities to become the outright winner of either Architectural, the Buildings or Bridge competitions.
This year saw a high level of entrants for all three competitions. The judging took place in June and congratulations go to the winners who were invited to the SSDA Structural Steelwork Design Awards at Madame Tussaurds on Tuesday 8th July, to receive their prize money.
Design Brief: Design a tall Skyscraper, which will be in a city centre, with mixed-use building containing elements of commerical office, shopping spaces, a hotel, public spaces, leisures facilities and residential provision: in short; a vertical city.

Design brief: Design a road bridge over an area of railway sidings and main railway lines. As the bridge is to be a symbol of the regeneration of the area, the project sponsors anticipate an elegant solution.

Design brief: Prepare an outline design for a structure to completely cover a historic ship, located in a dockyard as one of several visitor attractions. Entrants are expected to demonstrate individuality and flair, in addition to showing an understanding of structural design, and communicating their ideas in a written report with calculations and drawings.
